Forex prop firms with static drawdown

Forex: with a static drawdown, the maximum loss level is set at a fixed distance below your starting balance and stays there for the life of the account. Profits do not pull it higher, so every gain widens the room you have before a breach. The programs listed here use a static maximum loss.

How a static drawdown works

Take the starting balance and subtract the maximum loss allowance: that is the level your account must stay above. It does not rise when you make money or at the end of each day. If the account grows, the distance between your equity and the breach level grows with it.

This makes static drawdown the simplest model to plan around. You know your full loss allowance from the first trade, and a profitable run builds a cushion you can use later. Most programs still pair it with a daily loss limit, which is a separate rule that resets each day, so a static maximum loss does not mean unlimited risk in one session.

The trade-off usually sits elsewhere in the program, such as a smaller maximum loss, a higher fee or a two-phase evaluation. Before buying, check whether the limit is measured on balance or equity, how the daily loss is calculated, and what happens to your cushion after a payout, since withdrawing profit brings the balance back towards the fixed limit.

Frequently asked questions

Does a static drawdown ever move?

No. By definition it stays at the same level below the starting balance. Some firms use a trailing limit that stops trailing once it reaches the starting balance; that is a different model and appears on the trailing and end-of-day lists.

Is a static drawdown more forgiving than a trailing one?

For most traders it is, because neither open profit nor closed gains raise the breach level. Trailing models can still suit traders who take quick profits and rarely let a position give much back, and they are sometimes paired with lower fees.

Is a static drawdown measured on balance or equity?

It is usually checked against equity, so an open losing position counts towards the limit before you close it. Check the program rules, as a few firms measure it on closed balance only.
